A simple starter for illustrating the use of a storyboard.
Pupils are given 6 images and 6 captions, they have to put them together in what they feel is the most logical order.

Resources need time to prepare.

Just some starters I have created and prepared to share, the students seem to enjoy them and it helps with spelling and becoming familiar with ICT terminology.

Simple, yet fun, Key Stage 3 starter for teaching students to code HTML websites from scratch.

This is a quick whole class starter / plenary activity. Students must come to the front of the room and move the components of a letter into the correct place.

A whole class starter activity where students can catagorise the sources of information into trustworthy, untrustworthy or don't know by provoking a class discussion.

A simple starter activity where student need to match up the questions and answers. A teachers answer sheet is provided.

This exercise could be used as a start or plenary activity. Students study the picture of an office and try to identify the health and safety risks.

Ask students to write down a danger of using the Internet on s a scrap of paper. Students' answers are then transferred to the thought shower displayed on the board.

The PowerPoint attached features a thought shower that can be used as a starter. Students should write positive words to describe themselves on a scrap of paper. These are then fed back and the teacher adds them to the thought shower.

Later, students can use these words to help them write a personal statement as part of their CV.

Also attached is an example CV layout that can be shown to students as an example or given to them to be used as a template.

This activity could be completed in small groups. Students could use the Internet to help them find definitions for each of the terms. Students should not copy and paste answers.

This sheet can be used as a homework activity or starter / plenary before introducing the esafety topic.

A whole class multiple choice starter.

This is a macro enabled Excel document which can be used on the Interactive White Board. Students can come to the front and choose words from the drop down list to complete the sentences.

You can then click get answers to see if you were correct.

An excel file using macros. This exercise should be done on the interactive white board. Students could come to the front and select option from the drop down lists to label features of an email (using Outlook 2003). You can then click 'check answers' and the diagram will self mark.

A picture to be used to prompt a class discussion starter. A messy bedroom vs a tidy bedroom. The analogy being that just like in the tidy bedroom it is much easier to find your favorite tshirt, when using a 'tidy' folder structure it is much easier to find your files.

This is a paper based starter in which students are simply asked to write down an ICT related word for each letter.

Matching the key terms to the description.
Used as a starter activity for a Y7 lesson on spreadsheets.
Students should already know to how do many of the things mentioned on the activity.
Could be used for any KS3 lesson on spreadsheets.

A starter / plenary activity to get students thinking about website evaluation. Students are asked to think about the positive and negative elements of a couple of websites and how they are suitable for their audience. This could then lead on to students evaluating their own websites.

A simple starter / plenary activity in which students drag the objects into the webpage (represented by the rectangle) to demonstrate their awareness of the conventions of website layout.

Students need to produce a range of business documents including a business letter. Here are some sample paragraphs which could be used by students to construct their own business letter (themed on a mountain biking park), and a starter activity which requires students to fill in the blanks (this gets them to think about the layout of business letters).

The interactive spotlight allows you to hide answers on a powerpoint slide. This could be a list, a brainstorm etc. The 'spotlight' can be moved across the slide to reveal answers.

Usually when you create a PowerPoint presentation the items (shapes, pictures, text) cannot be moved or dragged about when you view the show. A macro in this PowerPoint allows you to do just that.

This example allows you to drag around a 'spotlight' which reveals text previously hidden as the text colour is the same as the background.

Each student is given a question and an answer (which don't match up). One student reads out his question to the rest of the class. Everyone now need to read their answers to see if they have the matching answer. The student with the matching answer should read it out to the class. He should then read out his question and so the process continues.
