An A5 self assessment sheet which can be used during a lesson plenary. This encourages students to think about what they have learned during the lesson and recall important points and key words as well as indicating whether they understood using smiley faces.
An excel spreadsheet using a macro to run a countdown timer. If you want to set students on task and give them X minutes to complete it, why not have a countdown on the whiteboard so they know how long they have left?
The interactive spotlight allows you to hide answers on a powerpoint slide. This could be a list, a brainstorm etc. The 'spotlight' can be moved across the slide to reveal answers.
Usually when you create a PowerPoint presentation the items (shapes, pictures, text) cannot be moved or dragged about when you view the show. A macro in this PowerPoint allows you to do just that.
This example allows you to drag around a 'spotlight' which reveals text previously hidden as the text colour is the same as the background.
To make it work, make sure that your macro security is set to medium. Look in Tools -> Macros -> Security. **You will then need to quit PowerPoint and reopen it before this will work.**
If you want to make new objects draggable, simple create them as normal then right click on the object, choose 'Action Settings' and make sure'DragandDrop' is chosen on the 'Run Macro' option.
When you open the PowerPoint, if prompted, click 'Enable Macros'.
A detailed lesson plan proforma incorperating PLTs and cross curricular links
If you have the results of a test or exam and you have the grade boundaries you can use the VLOOKUP function in Excel to automatically attribute a grade to each student. This spreadsheet is all setup and working - so use it as an example or add your own data and off you go.

A simple random name selector that can be used as part of AfL when questioning the class to ensure the same students don't always answer the questions. Macros will need to be enabled.
Techniques to find out what students are learning (during the lesson) and what they have learned (after the lesson when planning the next lesson). Strategies include ABCDE cards, basketball discussions, hinge questioning, class votes, no hands up, mini white boards, carousels and more.
A fun slide to have on the board while holding a thumb-o-metre session
What is Thum-o-metre?
Using a thumb-o-metre is a great AfL technique. The teacher asks students how they feel about a topic e.g. how confident do you feel using the SUM function in excel. Student indicate with thumbs up, down or level. This gives the teacher a really quick overview of how well the whole class understand the topic.
A warning to be displayed on the board showing how much time has been wasted during the lesson as a result of talking and poor behavior. Students can be warned that they will need to make this time up at break / lunch. This should work as a visual deterrent to discourage further poor behavior and an opportunity is created to 'earn this time back'.
A good resources, particularly for challenging and weak classes.
